Seine Rigger
If you ever find yourself strolling through Banstead and craving a proper British meal done right, let me introduce you to a local gem: Seine Rigger. Located at 11 Nork Way, this unassuming spot has quietly built a loyal fanbase with its honest-to-goodness comfort food, laid-back atmosphere, and friendly service. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely dinner, Seine Rigger makes it easy to enjoy the little things-like flaky fish, golden chips, and the unmistakable smell of a fresh fry-up.
From the outside, Seine Rigger doesn’t try to be flashy. It’s all about substance over style, which, in many ways, reflects its traditional roots. Step inside, and you’ll find a casual setup with seating that’s comfortable but straightforward-perfect for solo diners, couples, or families just wanting to relax and tuck into a satisfying meal. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible too, with both the entrance and seating designed to accommodate everyone.
The menu? Straight to the point, with enough variety to keep things interesting without overwhelming you. Among the standout offerings, the Regular Fish and Chips is clearly the star. We're talking about a perfectly crispy batter that shatters at the touch of a fork, revealing moist, tender fish inside-exactly what you hope for when you order this British classic. Pair it with chunky chips and a side of mushy peas, and you’ve got the kind of dish that makes you feel right at home.
If you’re in the mood for something a little different, the Fritto Misto is worth a look. This seafood medley hits the spot with a nice balance of texture and seasoning-nothing greasy or overdone, just a light, crispy exterior and a flavorful bite. It’s these kinds of details that show the team at Seine Rigger really understands their craft.
Aside from the popular plates, Seine Rigger caters well to those who just want a quick bite or a light lunch. Coffee is served fresh and hot-ideal if you’re dropping by mid-day or waiting on a takeaway. Yes, you read that right. While they don't offer delivery, their takeaway service is quick and reliable, which makes it easy to grab your go-to order without any fuss. And if you’re hosting something casual, their catering service might be just what you need for a low-key, delicious spread.
Evenings at Seine Rigger tend to attract a mix of regulars and first-timers, many of whom come for a relaxed dinner without the noise or crowd. The ambiance stays low-key even during peak hours, making it a good option for anyone looking to avoid the hassle of overbooked or rushed restaurants. It's also popular for solo dining, so no awkward stares if you’re out on your own with a book or just want a moment of peace with your plate.
As for the sweet tooth crowd, yes-they serve desserts too. Simple, satisfying options round out the menu, giving you the chance to end your meal with something sweet without needing to head elsewhere. And while this isn’t a place for gourmet frills or Instagrammable aesthetics, there’s a certain charm in the way they stick to what they know best and execute it well.
In a town that has its fair share of modern eateries and high-concept spots, Seine Rigger holds its ground as a classic. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t need gimmicks to keep customers coming back-just good food, good service, and the quiet confidence of a kitchen that knows exactly what it’s doing.
Whether you’re a local looking for your new regular spot or a visitor passing through Banstead, keep Seine Rigger in mind the next time you want a meal that feels like a warm handshake from the chef. It's honest food, served right, and well worth a detour off the beaten path.

Went there this evening with my wife and son after hearing how good the food was and was not disappointed. We found out that the place was under new ownership and decided to give it a try. The cod was flaky but not dry, the batter was crispy and the chips were divine, especially when served with their homemade tartare sauce. Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.
We had a wonderful meal here last week. One of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Chips were perfectly cooked and the batter was golden and crispy. We loved the Complementary homemade tar tar sauce. Thankyou will visit again soon.
Had a lovely meal last night at Seine Rigger, the fish and chips were cooked to perfection. And we were pleasantly surprised with the selection of desserts. We ordered the apple crumble with Italian vanilla ice cream. Was absolutely delicious. Not too sweet and a perfect combination of cinnamon and spices with a crumbly topping. Will visit again. Thankyou to Sam for the great service
First time picking up from here, and will definitely be back! Everything was fresh and tasted so good. The home made tartar sauce and curry sauce (please keep this recipe!) are just as good! All at good value too. New owner was friendy and chatty. Can't fault anything.
First tried the Seine Rigger 50 years ago as a youngster. Was good then. And it’s still good today. Best in the area. Used to make The Sun newspaper’s National Top 100.
